The Chalice Bearer

Christ is the chalice-bearer. He holds and drinks from the cup of human suffering. It is not right to hold back my sins or my pain from Him. There is a very human temptation to not want to “burden” God with my problems. I want to keep it simple, keep it clean – I want my mascara not to run and Christ not to suffer for me – after all, we’re friends, aren’t we? Why lay all my problems on Him?

But Christ is the Chalice-Bearer. This is the loving gift that He chose to give to me. He wants me, every day, to add my own pains and mistakes to that bitter cup which he has already drunk from. To not do this would be a great disrespect for my host.
